Lastly, we have our optional life drawing sessions which run every Thursday's afternoon is a great chance to have a little break from spending most of your time in your studio space working on your projects. Going to the life drawing session I have the great chance to see the human figure, as well as being given the fantastic opportunity to draw models. If you study abroad between your second and third year of study, you’ll pay no tuition fee to the partner university and no tuition fee to us either. We’ll ask you to make your decision in your second year, so there is plenty of time to think about it. Between your second and final year, you will have the option to study abroad or do a work placement for a year. Fashion & Textiles

We use cookies on our website to give you the most relevant experience and to personalise content and ads for marketing. Past students have progressed to study Fashion Marketing and Branding, Fashion Promotion, Fashion Design and Marketing, Fashion Communication and Fashion Image Making and Styling. This qualification will provide you with a range of transferable skills so that you can progress onto a range of our HE courses. English and maths at Level 2 will also be part of the study programme. An individual final major project will be chosen by the student and lecturer. You will be assessed by a variety of methods including, written assignments, presentations, discussion, sketchbook development, mood boards and oral questioning.

Student Support

The unit includes business applications relevant to the fashion industry including gaining a competitive advantage; project management; market research; marketing and branding; the business planning process and creating a business plan. Some jobs, such as retail management, are open to graduates from any degree discipline. This is because fashion degrees are very industry-specific and aren’t as transferable to a range of careers as degrees such as history, business and English are.

Critiques will involve you and your peers discussing and giving feedback on each other’s work. This will prepare you for life in the fashion industry where you’ll need to listen to – and not be upset by – constructive criticism. Working in partnership is fundamental to everything that we do in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education; we could not achieve the things we do if we worked in isolation.

In year 2, you will take an explorative approach to design and development through innovative materials, details and techniques, whilst working to industry briefs with an emphasis on products at a defined market level. You will evaluate how emerging technologies impact sustainable fashion practices, and further develop your critical skills and research interests in line with your personal practice. A placement year is an incredibly valuable element of your course as it allows you to apply your university-based knowledge, skills and understanding to your job role. During your placement, you will make your own industry contacts and enhance your CV by gaining real-world industry experience.

Graduates can also choose to further explore fashion in a postgraduate course. Placements Plus is all about helping you get some valuable experience under your belt while you’re a student, to increase your choices later, and help you get the graduate-level job you want. At the core of the BA Fashion Promotion and Communication course you can find creativity, innovative thinking and an exploration of contemporary approaches to the marketing of fashion. Not only will you be able to benefit from our Red Shed which homes our textiles and fashion course, but you’ll also have access to our remarkable, fully-equipped photographic studio. Taught by established artists within cutting-edge facilities, our special effects make-up short course will teach you techniques for creating a range of effects and how to photograph work for a portfolio to support your future career.
